Insurance Claim - Need A Police Report

Hi
Hopefully someone can help me with this query.
I was in Portugal on the last day of holiday and returned to our hire car to find it was broken into and luggage stolen. Police were called but by time they arrived we needed to be enroute to airport, friendly police said they would file a "preliminary report" and we could do a full one at Airport Police desk, however at airport police there refused to as "there would be 2 numbers," and refused to call the local Police station where we reported it to origininally.
We had to leave to catch flights so at the moment we have no claim no for our insurance, we have a friend in Portugal who went to the local branch but no claim ref had begun.
So how do I go around doing one? The offices at the scene said we had 6 months to file a report but time is ticking out

I guess the best place to start would be with the police station in the place you first reported it.
I think you might find it a bit frustrating.
Do you know if it was the GNR that attended?
Where were you? Some areas are the responsibility of the PSP instead.0 -
Hi thanks for taking the time to reply.
Fairly sure it was the GNR in Vilamoura that attended, if memory servers they wore blue uniforms0 -
I've had a look and Vilamoura is covered by the GNR
http://www.safecommunitiesalgarve.com/gnr/gnrloule/GNRVilamoura.html
The station phone number is 00351 289 381780
Fax 00351 285 381788
email ct.far.dlle.pvlm@gnr.pt
There should be someone available who speaks English, just because of the area having so many english residents and visitors.
Maybe try emailing with as many details as possible to start?
Portuguese bureaucracy can be a bit tedious, but, sometimes it can be very efficient.
There is a link to do it online too, but it says you'll need to visit the police station too, so maybe better not to try that first.http://www.safecommunitiesalgarve.com/onlinecrimereport.html.
Hope that helps.0 -
