Does anyone know if the Average Speed Cameras work on the M5 Bristol. Was heading home to Gloucester whilst it was raining/dark. Think i was alarmed as the camera flashed but obviously that would happen when it is dark as it is more noticeable.

Thanks,

Garcon 6.

Average speed cameras don't flash, so it was probably lights off another vehicle or something else altogether.

Average speed cameras do not flash (as above).

Neither do they measure speed - which is why it always amuses me when people slam their brakes on when they approach one.

All they do is record the number plate on ANPR and compare the time at which that number plate appears on each camera automatically (by the computer they send the data to).

Distance divided by time = speed.

ie you could have your number plate register passing the first one at 150mph without a problem, as long as your average speed to the next camera was less than the speed limit.
