My first paid job was a six month stint as an office junior / sales assistant in a recruitment agency. I really didn't like sales, but it was that or stay on the dole, so I took it anyhow. It was a good decision - I didn't stay with the company, but I did get a job with one of its suppliers, a small software company in London.
That job was another sales position, but I quickly proved my worth, and started to take on requirements gathering / business analysis work. From there, it didn't take much to move into interface design, and now I'm a user experience designer at Rightmove.
tl;dr - took a minimum wage job, found an opportunity from it, now working in my dream career.0 -

wow, jbreckmckye, that sounds too good to be true! (not that I'm doubting your word) amazing job - well done you on making something of the opportunity. it sounds like you've done really well for yourself, and I think that should be commended when it's seen :T0 -

Last yr at school (1986/86) I did 4 Saturdays at National Milk bar, 50p an hr....... the tricks that store did to save money, the rolls they wouldn't cut right the way down and then squueze the roll so it looked full.
Then i do a month at chip shop, £1 an hr, the boss was a tight rear getting wages, so when I got paid never went back.
Then to Wimpy - left school great wage £1.50ph, compare to £27 for YT scheme. In total spent 12 yrs there, (2 batches of employment) left as a manager.

My first job was delivering the free local newspaper (£4 per 100).
My second job was working as a chambermaid in a posh hotel. That was my worse job so far as people are total pigs when they don't have to clear up after themselves.0 -
My first job was working in a factory, printing logos on carrier bags. The machine I used was massive. I had just left school and was lucky enough to find myself a job there (86).
The problem was it was 12 Hour shifts for 7 days a week. The money was excellent (£230 p\w) but I had no time to spend it and no social life to enjoy it with.
I didn't last long there before I left for college, after spending a few Years in various colleges in Graphic design, I found the job I was both experienced and happy with.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

First job was in a charity shop while I was at college as I couldnt get a paid job because of my grant, loved it there - by the time it closed I was running it on a Saturday, opening/closing etc. It had quite a good turnover as well as it was City Centre and sold fairtrade food etc so we used to get quite a bit of business. It was good experience.
First paid job was in John Menzies - it only lasted about 4 weeks though as I went off to uni.
First full time permanent job was working on a hotel reception where I met my best mate. Dear me, the stories I could tell about that job
OH's is pretty impressive, though. He left school at 16 and went to be a postal cadet with Royal Mail. He is now 41 and still works for RM - he switched from deliveries to sorting when he was 19 but he's still on sorting now.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
