Gas fire ignition problem

Hello........I have just tried to fire up my gas fire and found the ignition to be seized.
The knob just turns and the ignition pin just stays put,I have even tried to ignite it by turning it with a pair of pliers and have applied some WD40 but it just wont budge.
Has anyone got any ideas on how I could fix it before I call out a pro.
The fire is a Supreme Multi Flue SC and was installed in 1997.

As this is most likely a gas related faulty part, you need to call a RGI registered for fires.

As gas4you said above, you need to call an RGI in to look at it.

The problem you may have is that, I am 99% sure the manufacturer of that fire went bust a number of years ago. It was exclusive fires I think, either that or Eurotech fires, but both are now gone.

If ( I hope for you is the case ) the part is a universal fitting, you may get sorted out, but if not it may be time for a new fire.

It does sound like it has gone to the great fireplace home in the sky though. Sounds like the gas valve has gone

Thanks guys, and you are right rusty boy it is an exclusive supreme multi flue.
I just hope that the part needed is still available and would I be right in saying that there would be no other way of lighting the fire.

If you cannot turn the control handle, then gas won't come out and there is no other way around it to get gas out of it( which a RGI would be prepared to do for you as would be very dodgy).

What you also have to look at, is by the time you have bought the parts ( if still available) and had them fitted and paid for a service for the fire, it could add up to a fair bit of money. Some gas valves can be over £100, plus say £70 for a service etc.

You may be better putting that money towards a new fire, which will have a good heat output, better efficiency and available parts if required in the future. The ceramics for your existing fire will certainly not be available now and you may find that your fire doesnt have an ODS on it, which means that a RGI may not even touch it.

Have a good think before shelling out money on a 15 year old fire.
