Direct debit cancellation

I have just been advised by a client that HSBC have insisted on receiving 24 hours notice to cancel a direct debit regardless of whether you call them, go into a branch or use their online banking system. This is a new one on me and smacks of an organisation setting up a system to suit their own requirements rather than satisfying their customers rights. Has anyone else had this experience?

How much notice do you normally give?0

Sounds fair enough to meFor everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
Little point in HSBC offering a service they couldn't deliver. So seems reasonable.0

why is 24 hours causing you a problem ? Also the company that sends the DD claim to HSBC could cancel it at their end.0

They can cancel it on their systems instantly. But if it's already been requested by the receiving company it's still going through.0
