As long as you show them you have been job-hunting, then they don't seem to delve to deeply.Never Knowingly Understood.

I have discovered that I cannot viably make the required 10 employer contacts a week with my psychiatric conditions, most of the jobs available would be unsuitable for someone with my problems, and so I want to sign off JSA, the stress of it is just not worth the money. Hopefully I can get my ESA claim approved anyway. What is the procedure for this?
You probably know this but to make a valid claim for ESA you need to make a claim (online, phone or form) and also send a Med3 certificate from you GP confirming you are not currently fit for work. It may be worth talking to your GP prior to your next appointment with your adviser to ensure you are able to make a claim for ESA and end your JSA claim.0 -
It's true. Mine is 9 things a week which is stupid, but i do it anyway! Used to be 3, before i moved area.Save, save, save, save.0

It make sense to me depending on your previous experience, education and how long you've been looking. if you worked in retail it make sense to apply to more jobs where they will likely to be more competition whereas a pilot will most likely have less positions to apply for but more chance to get it.0

Perhaps FBaby. I had just finished my PGCE course, had been unemployed for less than 2 weeks, and yet was given 11 things to 'do' each week. Hard when I explained that teaching vacancies go in waves - from May 31st, teachers cannot resign for the September - so only now are jobs starting to trickle through for January starts. Heyho.0

Well, you can't expect to sign on for months on end because a job might come up in January0

As I understand it on JSA you only have to do 3 actions per week. Irrespective of what your agreement says you have agreed to do. They cannot sanction you for only doing 3 actions per week....or if they do sanction you you can have that decision overturned quite easily.
If you want to do it "by the book" tell them you want to re-write your agreement, and this time you can tell them you only want the agreement to be for 3 job seeking actions per week, anything you do on top of that will be your decision and entirely voluntary. You can ask them "what would constitute a job seeking action?" For example....would visit jobcentre to look on jobpoints for 1 hour on 1 day a week be counted as a single jobseeking action?
Claiming ESA is a nightmare too, you will need ongoing sick notes from your doctor for atleast 14 weeks until you fail a medical, then you will have to appeal for about 6 - 8 months and continually send in sick notes to get paid on appeal, the sick notes you send in will frequently be late, and or go missing thus delaying your payment. There is no gaurantee you will win at tribunal, but if you lose, you can either claim JSA or claim ESA again and start the whole ESA/medical/appeal process again.0 -
It can be changed but im not sure what you have to do to be asked to do more than 3, ive only ever been asked to take 3 steps to find work.
If you want to sign off then fill in the part of the booklet for signing off and hand it in.0 -
just tell them what they want to hear in terms of what you've done to secure work, and collect your money.0

if you have any disabilities you are supposed to see a disability advisor at the job centre you can request this and they can cut your jobs to 2 to 3 a week to apply for and should give you extra help.;)0
