Do I need to inform someone I'm leaving the country?

Hello,
I'm due to go travelling for a year in a few months time and was wondering if there is anyone I need to inform? I appreciate the need to tell the bank but I assume someone within the Government needs to know as well. For example, how would I stop myself being called up for jury service?
Thanks for your help.

https://www.locate.fco.gov.uk/locateportal/ not sure if this will help you when you are travelling.
i personally wouldnt worry about the likes of jury service.
do you not have a forwarding address for your mail that maybe a family member could deal with if anything important was delivered0 -
Remember to tell the milkman or you won't get in the door when you get back.
Don't tell your doctor. We've known of people going away for more than 3 months being de-registered, Many travel insurance products require you to BE registered
with a UK doctor, bit of a catch 22 there.0 -

I was under the impression that if you get called up and ignore the letter you get fined which is why I was concerned about that.
My mail is to be rerouted to my parents house but I don't particularly want them opening everything. However I guess in some cases it may be necessary. I'm also expecting a fairly substancial tax refund come april which I believe is sent by cheque so I may need them to deal with this anyway.Bob_the_Saver wrote: »Don't tell your doctor. My nurse already knows as she did the huge number of jabs I required but I'm not too concerned about this. They know I'm returning and haven't suggested anything along these lines.0 -

Your Mum, otherwise your dinner will be cold by the time you get back
Don't see why you have to tell the bank TBHO, unless you mean re Debit \\credit card use overseas.
Have a good trip0 -

I went travelling for 8 months and didnt even think about telling anyone :rotfl:
I left the forms for the tax refund with my parents - as you had to wait til youd been unemployed for 4 weeks before sending them off, so they posted them for me, and then when the cheque arrived I just left them my bank details and my Mum paid it in for me. But you could tell that the letter was from the Inland revenue so they didnt have to open everything.
I guess the chance of Jury service is so slim anyway, and I wonder if it would come by a signed service or something? So you could just tell your parents to open stuff like that.
The only other thing I did was SORN on my car.
If you have a student loan you will need to tell them I guess?0 -
They won't - UK immigration does not routinely check passports of departing passengers..
Airport security does - and the airline does - but not immigration.
They don't need to the airlines collect the info and make it available to them.

I'm not disputing whether they tell the UK government or not (I always assumed they didn't though - what's the point?), but advance passenger information is given to the country you're flying into - not to the UK immigration service. (Or have I misunderstood!?)0 -
