British Gas servicing

after each BG engineer has serviced my boiler which is in the loft, the green 'eco' switch will be switched off! i check before he comes to service the boiler and sure as eggs is eggs, when he has gone the green economy button will be off! anyone else have this problem? if i thought this was a deliberate ploy by BG or their engineers, I would be pretty angry

Perhaps one of the checks they have to perform requires that this be switched off.

Have you thought to just ask the engineer make sure to return the switch to "eco" setting when they finish?
Optimists see a glass half full :)
Pessimists see a glass half empty :(
Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be :D

I'm scratching my head to understand how this is a problem or a deliberate ploy?
Go up there and switch it back on or like PVT says ask them to put it back on!
You'll be complaining your fingers aren't all the same length next!
  • thanks for both replies:
pvt: i didn't ask the engineer if this was a check that was necessary, because if that was the case logic would dictate that it was returned to the green mode it was found in perhaps?
unclebulgaria: at 67 years old, i doubt i will bother checking that my fingers are the correct length uncle, but i will try to avoid the rudeness that you seem to find necessary.
    have a nice day both.

    what rudeness ?
  • The pre-heat function can be switched on and off manually according to your requirements by pressing the ‘ECO’ button on the front of the boiler.
    The ‘ECO’ button explained

ECO illuminated green = energy saving economy mode, preheat off, slight increase in the length of time for hot water to be delivered.
ECO not illuminated = comfort mode, preheat on, quicker response to a hot water demand.
