Argos purchase no good after 8mths - what are my rights?

Hi, I bought a binatone digital cordless phone back in December last year and still have receipt. The phone isn't functioning correctly so I called Argos and they said because its out of their 30 days period I can only get vouchers back.
Do I have a case to state actual refund or am I at a loss you think? I even called binatone but instead got a very rude man in customer service telling me i need to go to argos.
I come across the odd article on consumer rights but really i'm starting to think I haven't a leg to stand on. Its a good job I have my receipt even but really I should at least be given my moneyback as their item doesn't work! I'm very miffed right now:mad:

Have you read the FAQ at the top of the forum? Given the age of your item you would need to prove that the fault is inherent. Given Argos sell everything it will be far less hassle to get a refund in vouchers and buy something else.
Even if you can get someone to confirm that the fault was inherent Argos can offer you a proportionate refund (i.e. make a deduction from the use you have had from it) so the simplest thing really is to take the vouchers.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Why do you want a refund so badly? Wouldn't a replacement phone be of more use?0

You needn't worry about SOGA, Argos give a one year guarantee with all their goods. Plus you do not need to accept vouchers, unless you paid with them in the first place
From their website

If there's a fault with the product...
We've made it easier!- If you bring it back to us within 30 days with your proof of purchase, we'll give you a
replacement or a refund. - If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.
- Please note that all large kitchen appliances are excluded from our normal 30 day guarantee, but if your item develops a fault within 30 days, call us on 0845 640 0800 and one of our advisors will assist you with your problem. If faulty and if it cannot be repaired we will arrange a replacement free of charge or you can opt for a refund.
- This does not affect your statutory rights.

If you read that extract Zandoni they only give a refund if a repair or replacement is not possible. It may be perfectly possible but the OP may be demanding a refund, in which case it is not covered by those terms you link to and hence vouchers could be a perfectly plausible response from Argos.Thinking critically since 1996....0

I'm assuming that the same model is no longer available as there has been a catalogue change since purchase. Otherwise I doubt they would even be offering vouchers.
The OP will have to tell us if this is the case.0 -
I suppose I'll just have to opt for vouchers, though I guess i'll find out tomorrow when I go to store as originally i called them.0

I paid for it with my card, i'm not sure if they have replacment but that's fine. I guess if i get vouchers i'll just use for christmas or something.0

Don't you need a phone anymore?0

LOL! Its ok I still have my old back up wired phone.
So I went to Argos and they have given my vouchers in end. I'll just use for xmas or something like that. They last for 3yrs apparently!0
