PC Security?

Hi

Just looking for some advice. I previously had McAfee Security on my PC, but that has now expired. Prior to McAfee I used Panda. We have just changed service providers to Virgin Media and they are offering Virgin Media Security, I am not sure what to use.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if you are using a router then

    Avast Free
Malwarebytes Antimalware (ran once a month as its only on demand) free
    Windows Firewall - free

all free and perfectly acceptable protection

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • It's a wireless connection.

+1 for all this, personally I use MS Security Essentials as my anti virus.

Is that OK to use with a wireless network?

Wired or wireless makes no difference - you're still connecting via a router.

I used Virgin Media Security until they changed providers, whereupon it became resource hungry and too intrusive.
How do I add a signature?

they are all fine on a wireless network, and with it being a wireless network would (usualy) mean you are running a router, and pretty much every router will have a built in hardware firewall, which means my previous suggestion about windows firewall is ok (this was the bit in my first post about if you are using a router)

i would still recommend going for avast over microsoft security essentials, mainly becauce over the last few sets of testing at Av comparatives Avast has had consistantly higher results than MSE

  • I use Avast as well. It works perfectly ok. Not sure about many of the others apart from Norton, which I wouldn't touch as it clogs up your system
  • Have a look at Norton ConnectSafe DNS and Sandboxie. Both are light on system resources, reliable, effective and free.
