Hi Lebly
My understanding of a troll in forum terms is someone who posts in threads purely to start arguements, etc. Nothing informative/helpful/friendly in there posts at all.
I'll Google it as a I saw a good wikipedia on it a few weeks back when I wondered the same.
You'll often see someone say 'Dont feed the troll' which means - ignore that paeticular post; let's not allow them to get off topic and bicker etc.April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

I think a troll is meant to be an unpleasant, horrible person who posts purely to cause trouble and start arguments. Ive also heard that some trolls are regular users who post under a different name, so they wont be recognised!!!!0

The word troll is very appropriate when you consider its origin, it isn't from The Lord of the Rings, it's actually a Fishing Term. To troll is a pull a lure or bait through the water in the hope that a fish will "Take the Bait" and you can then "Reel them in".
That is exactly what trolls on message boards are hoping to do - I.E. Get you to bite.

Don't trolls live under bridges hoping to eat billy goats?0

Not quite clear due to punctuation, but were you referring to my post, originally posted on Old Style, for same reasons as you posted this here - not sure where to post it, with title - am I being mean?0
