    Hi Lebly

My understanding of a troll in forum terms is someone who posts in threads purely to start arguements, etc. Nothing informative/helpful/friendly in there posts at all.

I'll Google it as a I saw a good wikipedia on it a few weeks back when I wondered the same.

You'll often see someone say 'Dont feed the troll' which means - ignore that paeticular post; let's not allow them to get off topic and bicker etc.

I think a troll is meant to be an unpleasant, horrible person who posts purely to cause trouble and start arguments. Ive also heard that some trolls are regular users who post under a different name, so they wont be recognised!!!!

  • The word troll is very appropriate when you consider its origin, it isn't from The Lord of the Rings, it's actually a Fishing Term. To troll is a pull a lure or bait through the water in the hope that a fish will "Take the Bait" and you can then "Reel them in".

That is exactly what trolls on message boards are hoping to do - I.E. Get you to bite.

Not quite clear due to punctuation, but were you referring to my post, originally posted on Old Style, for same reasons as you posted this here - not sure where to post it, with title - am I being mean?
