There should be more military charities like hireaherouk.org or helpforheroes.co.uk set up in order to pay our respect and show our gratitude for those brave men and women who fought for our country.

There are... ever heard of...
RAFA
RAF Benevolent fund
Navy Benevolent fund
The Haig Fund (AKA the poppy appeal)
The Royal British Legion
Erskine
and many more
Some of those charities have been around for a very long time and are actually having their funds squeezed by the new charities that are making all the headlines.0 -
I was watching a programme on BFBS a couple of months ago and they were saying that there are over 200,000 armed forces charities in the UK.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0

That sounds more like the total number of registered charities of all kinds!
Here is a site where you will find a confederation list:

It would make more sense for there to be fewer charities so the overall administrative costs were lower, and more of the money could go to help the service personnel who need it. People would not be confused about who to support.
Personally, it's the British Legion every time for me.Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

That and H4H for personal reasons for me. They both do a very good job, and my family and friends lives have been touched by both.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0 -

I was medically discharged in 2008 and I am lucky to have benefited from the many veteran charities that have been set up, including: Combat Stress, Horseback UK, Help For Heroes, British Legion Scotland, Royal British Legion, SSAFA and RAF Benevolent Fund.
Many of the charities are very specialist in what they do and the help they give for example Combat Stress and Horseback UK, although I do agree that some charities offer the same help as others. In my experience, what I think is needed is a case worker/social worker for every veteran who can not only assist with getting help from charities but help with practical transition to civvy street such as benefits, housing, finding work, getting healthcare etc.0
