Follow the T&Cs to the letter if they did not state anything about the fitters in the T&Cs it is an error on their part and can not claim to not allow you to cancel as it is not included.

I reckon this is the salesman you have got hold of who does not want to lose his commision, or a manager who realises that if you cancel his store will go under budget for the week! I would be hugely surprised if the T&C's do not allow you to cancel.
Sell K&B for Wickes and over here we allow cancellations at any time, fitters booked or not. Quite frankly, unless a bespoke item has been manufactured for your parents, I cannot see any reason why they should not be allowed to cancel, but I cannot vouch for B&Q's T&C's. It does not seem right that just because they have booked a fiiter you cannot cancel. I smell a rat.0 -
The website doesn't actually say that B&Q handle clearing of the room beforehand.
First stop should be the T&Cs, as it may well be too late to cancel.
If it is too late, as others have said the best option would be a local handyman. Shouldn't cost much for someone to go round, move the existing furniture to other rooms and take the old carpet up.
I'm not sure if it's possible to re-lay the old carpet afterwards or whether they need new carpet? Not sure if you can re-lay a carpet that's already been fitted and cut down inside the room...
Too late I know but always worth asking how long fitting will take for a fitted bedroom. My mum used Hammonds and they sent one guy who took 5 days. We used Rhino last year and they sent a team of three who fitted the same amount of furniture in 6 hours!0 -
Thanks all, T&Cs state you can cancel any time or return goods upto 45 days after purchase, exactly teh same as the standard T&C for B&Q.
Anyhoo - Update
PiL called B&Q Head Office and complained about A) the service they were sold (hassle free, no effort fitted wardrobes in the bedroom) andThe refusal of the local store to honour T&C's and allow canellation of eth order.
24hrs later, 1 phone call from Head office - As long as any custom parts had not been made, order can be cancelled. As teh subby had not even done teh survey yet, HO agreed no work should be done and full refund given.
The crux of this is, they were 'sold' a fitted bedroon service where everything would be taken care of for them. What it turned out to be was a standard service to fit the wardrobes once the clearing and prep work had been done, which was not what they wanted and why they had asked for what they were sold.
All done now, and guess which SiL gets to fit wardrobes in teh next few days
Thanks All0
