I am trying to remove the VM home page as I dont want it. How ever i have tried the usual routes (using Internet options etc) it works ok until I log off. When I log on again it goes straight back to VM homepage.
I was NTL, and had removed their hp easily.
Any ideas on how I can get rid of VMhp once and for all ?
Oh I have tried their site but can't find anything about how to remove the hp only on how to get it....what a suprise !!

If you have SpyBot S&D installed, go to the "Immunize" section.
Is "Lock IE Start Page Settings" ticked?
If so, uncheck it.
Similarly, AntiVir's AdWatch by Avira has the same effect, and will not
let you change the homepage - nor will it let you alter the advanced
settings in the property section. You have first to disable the option "Block possible browser hijack attempts" in the option section of AdWatch.
A few of the other programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.
In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 it actually has to be uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you reinstall Zone Alarm.
Boot into Safe Mode with Networking with Networking and try the change.
If that is not the problem, get and run these programs (if you test after each one you can stop when the problem is gone):
Ad-Aware:

Once installed make sure to update via online before scanning!
and
Spybot - Search & Destroy -

Until the problem is solved.
If you still have problems, some ISP's provide a customized version of IE. Some Web pages will also reset your home page and do this. One of the customizations they might make is to disable the ability to change the home page, so that you are forced to use their home page. You can re-enable this by making a small change in the Windows registry.
In Regedit, navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
In the right-hand pane, right-click the "HomePage" value, then select Modify. Change it to: 00 00 00 00
Also change either or these to zero 0 instead of 1 if present:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001
If you don't have this key, browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
and in the right hand pane, double click "Local Page" and set equal to "C:\WINDOWS\System\blank.htm" (no quotes) which will hopefully set your Home Page to blank and then allow you to subsequently modify it using Internet Options.
Exit regedit and reboot.
When you reboot, you should be able to change the home page again.
Some pages will also download a program which keeps changing it back. Go to Start | Run and type:
msconfig
and press <Enter> or click OK. Go to the Startup tab.
See if you can identify any suspicious programs. If you can, uncheck it, If you can't, change the home page to what you want and then uncheck one and then reboot. Try IE. If the Web page changed, change it back and then try msconfig again, rechecking the last one and unchecking the next. Keep doing this until you find the culprit.Ex forum ambassador

I'm on the old virgin.net and set my home page to blank (about:blank) via control panel/internet options/home page/Use Blank
This site talks you through changing the homepage from within the Internet Exploer browser. http://mistupid.com/viewlets/internet/browserhome.htm
Hope one of these methods works for you

I have virgin media and have never had this problem but you could try using a site like google that has a link to click to set the page as your homepage.0

Thankyou all, Will be trying to sort it later today !0

Me again :-)
Thankyou to all of your ideas, I have tried the ones I could and ..........
......... nothing worked. Everytime I restart the computer it reverts back to VM.0 -
I have exactly the same problem as you purpledays. No matter what I do, the Virgin Media page always loads on start up, even though my homepage is Google and that is what loads when I click on the 'Home' button. It's not really a problem but it is a bit frustrating not to be able to resolve it!!!:rolleyes:0

I want to say thank goodneass I am not the only one, but feel a bit cruel saying it !
So I guess that means it IS a VM thing. I will try to email them for a resolution but am not expecting a reply this year (or at all actually!)0
