I definitely want one. We were shown the house alarm and the heating remote amongst other things at work. I am going for the house alarm. I often have language students staying and it would let me know if they had come home when they swipe the key fob. For others with teenagers this would help too. You get told who has entered or left your home.

With the remote heating I see this as good for anyone responsible for elderly or disabled people as when the temp drops they can remotely from their office change the home temperature.

I already have smart meters and love technology so as and when the money becomes available I will be signing up for more. The security system is only a couple of hundred pounds and can be fitted by yourself as it is wireless so all I will need is someone to disconnect my old alarm and I can replace it myself.

Of course smart homes have much more than I have posted. These are just the ones I love at this time.

I believe on the BG website you can show your interest which may make it happen a bit faster.

Mine is supposed to be fitted on 24th but I don't hold out much hope as my gas meter has been getting changed for the past 12 years but they never turn up for appointments.

If they don't turn up, complain. I've got 3 payments of £22 this year for them not turning up in time slot

    Hello,

It’s really good to see that there’s interest around smart metering technology. We're confident that it will bring benefits to our customers. We tend to install to customers whose current meters have reached the end of their life, but anyone can fill in a pre-registration form on our website to join the queue as we're widening our roll-out.

Smart meters replace current gas and electricity meters; the free install by a BG Smart Energy Expert takes around 90 mins to complete and customers receive a smart energy monitor too.

    Smart meters bring:

    1. Control and choice: the smart energy monitor shows gas and electricity usage in pounds and pence, which means customers can make choices to become more energy efficient and possibly save money
    2. Accuracy: bills are actual, customer pay for what they use, which means an end to estimated bills
    3. Peace of mind: meter readings are recorded for each half hour of the day and sent to British Gas every 24 hours

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have queries about the install.

    Best,
    Dana

  • Perhaps the BG representative can explain why the remote heating thermostat when set to say 19 degrees can still have the gas on when it rises to 20 or fails to come on when it falls to 18. Apparently it is only accurate in controlling the boiler to plus or minus 1 degree

    Thought it was digital ...
