Iva and credit file

Options
Hi all,

I have finished my IVA that I started in July 2006 and had all my defaults and the IVA removed off my credit file (lots of calls and emails). I was allowed to take a credit card out in June while I was waiting for my completion notice to come through but the thing is my credit is still classed as poor even with the default removed off. The explanations it gives is I have opened up a recent credit account my limit is low and I have a delinquent account with British gas who have registered late payments on my file, beginning of 2010 for 3 months then I paid the £71 off and now classed as settled, even though I have not had that account since November 2007.

I want to get my credit score improved as by January next year I would like to get a house with my partner, I am looking for advice on how I can get it improved I am trying to get the late payment notices removed as I never agreed for information to be shared when I took it out or was never made aware. Would I be better cancelling my credit card? As it seems to be causing it to be low, or, do I just keep going the way I am and pay everything off in full each month with it, does paying by direct debit help improve it or does just paying it off as soon as I get paid do the same (might be a stupid question that one but worth an ask).

I just want to get my life back on track and get everything sorted.

Cheers for the advice.

Aidan

I would settle the card every month after you get the monthly statement.

Not sure about the gas thing, if the account was closed in 2007 how can they have late payments 3 years later?

Your credit "score" will increase over time, I pay money to get your "score" as this is meanless.

Good luck on your mortgage, you need to find a whole of market broker who has successfully placed a mortgage for someone who has completed an IVA in the last 6-12 months - stay away from the high street as the computer will say "no"

Just to update this for other people, I got the defaults off by British gas as they had sent the reminders to the wrong address so all is good on my credit file and as stated in another post I have been accepted in principal for a mortgage with my partner so just house hunting at the moment.

    Regards
