Asking for a discount - anyone tried it with any success?

OK so the plan is to switch my electric from B Gas to Scottish Power as it's going to save me money.

Before I do I am going to ring B Gas and ask them to discount my tariff to an equivalent cost as the SP tariff. I think they will tell me to sod off but wondered if anyone else has ever tried this and had any success???

After all you would think they could retain more customers this way and therefore increase their profits even more;)

They will do it for large businesses as they are buying an energy value.

They won't do it for residential as each tariff needs to be held electronically to be used in a billing system. This would lead to thousands of individual tariffs which would be impossible to manage over time.

Their is also a Standard Licence Condition (SLC) covering discrimination, which this could be seen as if one customer gained more of a discount than another, maybe?

Not possible in terms of pricing differentials. You may be able to get a one off good will payment but its not very likely unless they have done something wrong.
