I spoke with solar immersion several times and he stated that the instructions were wrong and that the time in was the time that the primary load ran for before switching to the secondary load timeout. The system with two loads is therefore a timed system and does not depend on the mechanical thermostats cut out on your primary load
That's a surprise.
I haven't checked how mine works and can't easily now (the water is heated by another heat source at the moment) but I had assumed that when the message "Water Hot - diverting to heater 2" (or similar) appeared, the system had recognised that heater 1 had stopped drawing any power because the immersion thermostat had cut out.
If it doesn't do that, it makes a difference to how I set it. I must remember to make timed recordings next time I use the immersion. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

It certainly was to me - i shall have another go at getting the right info tomorrow from solarimmersion. A timed functionality is completely different and more user intensive than an automatic cut out on the thermostat. I wonder if the company really understand this ? I will also check that the advanced user instructions are factually correct. All the best0

How else other than using the thermostat can you automate it ???
Surely you want HEATER1 ( ie your immersion heater ) to continue till the water is hot ie. set at whatever the thermostat is set to ???

That is EXACTLY what I would expect.
i.e. Solarimmersion would divert power to the immersion until the immersion thermostat cuts out.
Solarimmersion would then recognise that the immersion wasn't drawing any power (it's wired through the unit remember) and start diverting power to the secondary load.
But it's not what is being reported as happening in practice. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

This the frustration. With a secondary load the time in is the time that the primary load works for before switching to the secondary load and operating for the timeout period of time. Then it switches back and forth. What I am having to do is jack the thermostat up on the tank as hot as it will go. If i don't do this and the thermostat triggers, the solarimmersion unit will still feed voltage to the thermostat even though it has tripped, until the time in period has elapsed when it will then switch to the secondary load. This wastes power as energy that could be used in the secondary load is simply in a void until the time in period has elapsed.
Even so, when the water gets to 80 degrees it will still trigger so i then have to reprogramme the unit for a small time in period and a larger timeout (if you follow !)
Don't get me wrong - i have oodles of hot water and a hot storage heater, its just soooooooooooo frustrating that solarimmersion seemingly have got this basic bit of functionality programmed wrongly. I'll probably have to live with it, but. I will be interested to see if they change their instructions because as far as i can see they are wrong.:)0 -
that my shower was not quite hot enough........... not bad considering how awful this month has been for solar generation. (143 kW so far in Oct) May have to put my boiler on.:eek:3.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch + Solar Immersion installed May 2013, after two Solar Immersion lasting just over the guarantee period replaced with Solic 200... no problems since0

Immersun 2 released,
It's wireless and more expensive than the original model.
Old models should be cheaper tho:D

Guys - I am looking at this now for a 3Kw storage heater (too costly to muck about with water heating as we have low use combi boiler hot water).
The device linked to in previous post is very expensive (especially given what they do - proportional switching with a sensor input) so have been looking at devices costing half that:
ECO3 Solar PV Immersion Water Heater Proportional Controller - which can be seen at amelec-uk d0t com or ebay
SolarImmersion Solar PV Surplus Energy Manager on solarimmersion dot c0 d)t ewe k (!)
(not allowed links sorry just in case im a spammer)
Any thoughts - they both seem to be proportional so will kick off at low wattages... Project has to work based on economics!
Cheers
