day pass for olympic park and excel

  • We were at Excel on Friday. We had tickets for the volleyball at 9am, then managed to see powerlifting (2 sessions) and judo as well.

Each arena has a section reserved for the 'guaranteed admission' session tickets (about a quarter of the seats). Another quarter of the seats are generally left unused (the media and VIP section). The remaining seats (so about half of the arena) are for the day passes - so there are plenty of seats.

There were empty seats in the day pass 9am volleyball session that we attended. However, the sessions after that were crowded. I suggest if you really want to see a particular event, stand in line about an hour before it starts. You get let into the arena about 30-45 mins before the start of each session, and they tell you about the sports before they begin.

We were there from 9am until about 630pm. Really enjoyed all the events that we watched, and I think the tickets are great value. Food is very expensive, so take your own. The jacket potato stand was reasonable (£4.50 for potato with a filling) but everything else was very pricey.

I didn't think the food stalls were that bad at Excel, it seemed most of the main dishes were priced at around £4. We had a pasta box and a half pizza, both were £4 each, and they were filling and plenty for us.

Yes, the Olympic food was pretty much like any mass-catered food. I had £4 pies and pasties which weren't marvellous but filled me up for half a day. If you're going for an afternoon session, there are quite a few places between the DLR station and the entrance which are probably worth investigating. But nobody though it would be gourmet food, surely?

Used my day pass at the olympic park today got there for 8 am - it was already buzy stayed till 10 pm
Got to see the basketball which was amazing gb women
    Goalball not very exciting
7 a side football just so we could say we had seen it
Tennis which had very grumpy games makers but got on the 3rd row
All had spaces for day passes basketball we were quite high up but moved down when people left

Used the west ham tube station - a good 25 min walk so only use it if feeling energetic

Then the olymics stadium which was amazing got to see bladerunner in the heats
Jacket potatoes were £6 and only just hot so looking forward to a cheaper one tomorrow at the excel :)

I was at ExCel on Thursday and can report exactly the same experience, including missing the 2pm sitting volleyball! Basically if it's something you really want to see, make sure you're there early, but usually you don't miss anything. It all worked out really well and there wasn't much waiting around at all, considering. An amazing experience for practically pennies!

This was my experience too. Spent the morning there and went into four events with only one (fast-moving) queue as everyone moved from one event to another. Worth checking the schedule - there are lists around - as there can be quite long gaps between sessions
  • They use a traffic light system at the excel on the notice boards red is full
The system worked well we got in to all 4 arenas
Had our photo taken with mandaville and an paralympic torch they were charging for ictures with the totch at the olympic park next to the acer experience
Going back to the olymic park tomorrow on a £5 ticket to see all thr things we missed inc the free photo from bp
