No one ever joins a union thinking 'I can't wait until I need to use this'.
And no employer says 'hey, join a union - then if we have to take you through a disciplinary, there will be someone there to help you'.

No. What you mean is that you got advice that didn't accord with your opinion on matters. There is nothing pointless in saying that the fact you are not in a union was a choice that you made and that you have nobody but yourself to blame for that choice. Nor is there anything pointless in people pointing out that, unacceptable as the employers behaviour was in this specific instance, after 20 years of working for him and you yourself saying that this recent behaviour was uncharacteristic; and after the employer recognised this himself and apologised; that you should at least give him a chance to apologise to you. Even employers are human and subject to all the same pressures as anyone else. Perhaps the business is suffering and he is despeately trying to save it and your jobs. Perhaps his wife has cancer. Perhaps his son or daughter is causing problems at home. There are lots of reasons why perfectly normal human beings can go through periods in which they act uncharacteristically and snap. Instead of sitting at home refusing to take calls and finding reasons to sue your employer of 20 years, you could try being reasonable and responding to their attempts to fix what they have done.0 -
I did not get to read your initial, why not look at your insurance policy and see if that covers you for legal employment help. Also there is ‘Which’ you can also join them for legal help and you will get advice/help immediately when you join them, no hassle as with unions as they can be more trouble than what you are experience at work. Loot at other employment forums and you will see lots post about unions and all of them bad, some people have to take action against their union for no help despite paying them subscription every month.0
