    I've successfully used it once.

Because you have a decent gap, and because you're looking ahead, and can see the queue of stationary traffic, you never actually go into fight or flight, so you just get to annoy the tailgater a bit before stopping.
Is this before or after cars with emergency brake assist?

Surely it depends on the incident.

If the traffic ahead all slammed on their anchors, I'd do the same, and !!!!!! the idiot behind me.

Although I have used the same kind of principle to effectively save the biker behind me in the past... but this was just with traffic slowing down quickly, and I had time to react correctly and think about what I was doing.

    No time = save self.

Didn't think that was actually out on a production car yet? Then again I've not kept up with what modern cars are doing.

My only question is: how do you manage to use cruise control in heavy traffic? I find I can only use it if i am in light traffic. Lots of cars around me makes me want to have my foot there for immediate reaction (I can pull away from most plodders, even in 5th).

My last 2 cars (S-Maxes) and my new one (Jag XF) have sensors at the front, which automatically slow them down/speed them up.

    Very useful bit of kit.

What year Lum's car is would depend on whether she has this on her Mondeo, too.

It's a Jan 2010 registered Mondeo Econetic, but it's a company car so it's not going to have the fancy toys.

Only reason I even got the Eco one is for the cheap tax and the fact that in 4 years time when all that stuff starts failing it wont be my problem. Shame it broke down on me a couple of weeks ago anyway, but that just meant two days of not having to go into work :3

Not sure what to make about having sensors on the front, on the plus side it means you can be really lazy in motorway traffic... on the downside... you're being really lazy in motorway traffic, so probably not paying attention.

So, really it was a choice of slowing down slowly, or doing a bit of a brake test on the tailgater, then a bit more heavy braking as you got closer to the traffic to keep him awake?

Sorry, dont get post 1, why are you only doing 70 in the OL?, How do you "Both" manage to overtake if hes doing 90 and your CC is set to 70?

? Sometimes the traffic inside that may be doing 60. Sometimes all 3 lanes are doing roughly 65.

Plus 70 is the speed limit. :rotfl:

Lum, he'll be a company car driver and I find it best to ignore such people. I'm not going to go up to 90 and put my licence at risk. Just ignore them and let them get on with collecting points. Like you said, you got off the motorway at the same time so it's not like he got ahead.

I find the tailgaters that most annoy me are the ones sitting on your bum in a 30 limit who disappear in the rear view mirror once you reach a nsl section of road only to slowly come up and tailgate again in the next village as if you're some sort of slow coach!

Yeah these are annoying aren't they! you find that they seem to do a steady 39mph everywhere and get right up your backside in a 30 oblivious to anything.

I'm sure they think they're being very careful by only going 39MPH but they apply that speed everywhere.

    Apparently it's a feature of my 2004 Nissan <shrug>
