Cheap Garmin i3

How did you manage that, do you have a time machine? :rotfl: :rotfl:
If I did I would have bought 100!
I was fortunate enough to grab one when Garmin I3s were first mentioned on MSE. Quiksave were dishing them out for £99.99 and I went to Staples and got it price matched. At the time halfords and argos for example were selling them for £180+
The deal came back a couple of times since Jan/Feb 06 but pretty much stayed at £120-180 everywhere for the entire year. Look at them now.... very strange how the price is barely changed one year on.
There was definitely a demand for them on ebay, people have heard about them and just been in the wrong place to get them cheap so resort to ebay where they have been selling for about £90-110 for ages.
Was lucky to sell it at £105 + delivery £6 .... I looked up the highest auction one had sold for in the last 2 weeks and copy pasted the item description and presentation.0 -
Mine is almost 2 years old now and if I sell it then I would still make a profit.
Just shows how amazing this little baby is.:TDo I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
Just love it.
I have even stuck it onto the rev counter glass on my motorbike to see me through a city centre. ( with a safety chord)....It wasn't raining!
Also got free upgrade to include latest Europe maps....Well done Garmin.

It just shows how out of date the hardware is.
The sirfstar 3 chipset is much much better at locking on to satellites and its much quicker entering 7 digit postcodes with a touch screen. This would make me choose the £59 gopal from Tesco if i was buying now ( or the £79 gopal from pcworld) .
If you have a car with an athermic windscreen ( Citroens and Peugeots) or a heated windscreen then definately choose a model with sirfstar 3 . My partners tom-tom1 ( sirfstar 3) gets a signal without problems in her 307 and my picasso ( both with the athermic windscreens that block satellite signals and can need external aerials on old chipsets like those used in this Garmin i3)0 -
Can someone tell me if it's true that you need to subscribe to get the speed camera database. I read it on garmin website and it's £39 per year...0

It may be that price at Garmin but don't use that. Use Pocket GPS World and you can then either choose to pay £19 a year for unlimited camera downloads or do what I do and pay £2 to download the database once every 3 or 4 months.0 -

Can any of you Garmin i3 experts help me. I've loaded the Speedcamera POIs etc., as instructed on https://www.pocketgpsworld.com. Do I then have to set anything on my i3 to make them work ? I've driven around since loading them and don't get any warnings of speedcameras and they don't show on the navigation map. Do I have to be exceeding the speed limit to make them work.
Thanks0 -

Make sure you upload the speed camera files and the POI files together ,otherwise the last upload will overwrite previous ones. The camera files should show up in the " Food, hotels and more / custom points " when installed correctly.0
