Am I right in thinking that LHA is like housing benefit? So we will qualify for that. And council tax benefit too? My husband is ringing the job centre first thing Monday morning so he will get jsa? Would we as a family get income support whilst we are looking for work?
Sorry for all the questions. I really don't have a clue about any of this and am worried sick
No need to apologise
LHA is not an actual benefit, it is part of how the council establish how much housing benefit is payable. You are a couple with one child so your LHA is the 2-bed rate. if you qualfiy for full housing benefit you will get the 2-bed LHA rate for your area. Council tax benefit is claimed on the same form as housing benefit.
As I said in my previous post if you/partner qualify for any amount of income-based JSA then full HB/CTB will be awarded. If you/partner qualify for contribution-based JSA then the council will calculate your entitlement by looking at all household income and savings.
In relation to Income Support, you cannot qualify because are you are not a lone parent, claiming CA or any of the other eligibility criteria.
Please note: as the primary carer of a child you will be exempt from the JSA conditions so you will not have to look for work, your partner will have to.0 -
hi- just wanted to say that i know how you are feeling. a while ago we were in the same position. we have a mortgage and had fortunately taken out protection insurance.
i was working part-time (more hours/money than you) and my hubby got cb jsa, we got full c/t benefit, more ctc and because my employer was able to give me a few more hours wtc as well.
the first few weeks whilst we waited for everything to come through were the worse as nobody seems able to tell you how much you will get and how long it will take.
we werent entitled to ib jsa due to my income so i cant say about that.
we were automatically sent a prescription exemption card as well, but not sure if that was due to getting wtc, but was for a low income.
good luck.0
