Advice please - Teen Car Insurance

Please can anyone advise on the best insurance for a young driver. We have spent weeks scrolling the internet and just cannot work out the best way to do it.
The details
Son - aged 17 in full time education
Car - owned by husband who uses it for work so son would only have limited use.
Would it pay for him to do a pass plus?
Would it be better to have a parent as main driver (with 60% no claims) and son as an additional driver?
Would it be better to have son as proposer (and therefore build up no claims) and parent as additional driver, therefore no 'no claims'?
Is a box, such as co-op offer, a cheaper option?
Please can someone just offer some advice before I pull all my hair out and scream very very loudly. Many thanks.

Its better if he has his own car and starts his own policy. He will earn his own no claims and your husband wont lose his no claims when your son has an accident.
And figures suggest he will have an accident within the 1st year.
But as you probably found out its very expensive.
Adding him onto your husbands car/policy maybe cheaper but the excess will be higher and the no claims may not be protected.
Also if the son has an accident they may investigate to make sure your not fronting and your husband really is the main user.
Insurance with black boxes. Buy with caution. Some have LOTS of restrictions. Cant use the car between certain hours and limited mileage which can only be topped up by adding say 250 miles extra at silly prices. No option to add 1000 miles. And they know instantly when you exceed the mileage.
Also issues with onus miles if you drive outside peak times or drive safely.
Who decides if your driving is safe? Having to brake sharply to avoid something is that bad driving?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
