Incorrectly issued 'Parking Charge' from UKPC
I know there have been lots of threads on parking tickets, I was just after an opinion on my best course of action.
I parked in a car park which is free for 2 hours if you display a valid ticket. I got a ticket and displayed it clearly in my car, then went to do my shopping.
When I returned to my car there was a 'Parking Charge' on the windscreen. Looking at the time on it, it was issued literally 2 minutes after I left my car.
I found a 'Parking Attendant' who claimed that it was his colleague who issued the ticket and now it was issued it couldn't be removed. I would have to contact UKPC to contest it. he wouldn't even come and look at my car to confirm that the 'charge' was incorrectly issued.
The wording on the ticket is:
'Parking Charge
lots of details of time, date, car reg etc
A parking charge of £90 is therefore payable within 28 days of the date of this parking ticket'
Bearing in mind that my ticket was valid and on display, what is my best course of action?
Can I ignore it (is it even a legal 'charge')
Should I call them and say I'm not going to pay it (0870 number)
Should I write to them and tell them I'm not going to pay it (not a prepaid envelope)
Thanks.
ps a kind lady photographed my car with valid ticket and has said she will e-mail me the pictures, so i have proof.

Keep all paperwork and just ignore them. You paid so they have not a leg to stand on, thats apart from all the other reasons why they have had it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Thanks.
I am half-tempted to ignore it. How would they get my details to pursue things further? Are they allowed to get them from DVLA?
I'm assuming that an unpaid parking charge won't affect my credit history?
Whatever happens, I'm not paying for their incompetence, which is why I resent having to pay to call them, or pay to write to them.0 -
No it won't as you won't go to court for it so sleep easy. You may get a few letters from them - all ignorable.
don't entertain or contact them at all I'd say.
Do expect the thread to be moved to the parking section though

Thanks again. I was pretty sure it would come to nothing, it's just nice to have reassurance.
I didn't know about the parking section, so thanks for that info too.
Sorry Mods, didn't mean to post in the wrong place *hangs head in shame*
I might frame the ticket. My first one

No to the CCJ, its not a debt or crime.
You will get a few sheets of threatening letters then silence.
Go to the parking forum and see the sticky where they have a copy of the letter chain that each PPC sends out.
When you are happy and they have exhausted their chain then tell all your friends.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

Well I'm afraid you'll need to pay us £90 for posting in the wrong section. Reduced to £45 if paid up quickly.
Remember, your kneecaps may be at risk if you fail to pay up any posting charges secured on them.
Call us immediately at £10 a second on 0870 1234 SCAM to settle up or we'll send you lots of letters and er.... that's about it.*

*The above has as much basis in law as the ticket you have i.e. none. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Oh yes. That will do very nicely thank you. Sorry we have no change though!

Should I write to them and tell them I'm not going to pay it (not a prepaid envelope)
You could get them to pay for the postage by sending it in an unstamped envelope marked 'payment enclosed'!
But seriously, your best bet is to ignore their empty threats entirely, but keep all your evidence for the 0.000001% chance that they take you to court.0
