Toyota Corolla Engine Size Advice Needed

Hi,

Am looking to buy a 2 to 3 year old Toyota Corolla but just need some advice about engine sizes.

I am torn between the 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines (do not do much mileage so do not want diesel). Dealer has advised that there is not much difference power wise between these engines, does any one know if this is the case?

Also if there are 3 adults in the car would 1.4 struggle a bit?

1.6 has to be the better choice out of the two.

I run a 1999 Toyota Corolla SR with a 1.6 Engine - which has been an excellent buy.

The more modern engines that you are looking at are VVT (variable valve timing). They also are chain cam driven - which means you don't have to replace the cambelt every 40000-60000 miles.
