Cheque Clerance if person banks with the same bank and branch?

Options
Hi needed some help in regards to that my nan gave me a cheque to help me pay some bills etc.

She banks with the same bank (Barclays) and we bank at the exact same branch where we live.

I thought that with us being at the same branch and bank would have meant it will have cleared by today but this is not the case it's showing up on my online statement yet not in my cleared funds.

Panicking now as i assumed it wouldn't take this long due to bills etc and as i said before same bank, same branch - also rang them and some guy told me it was 5 days in which i said what even with the same branch and bank your kidding me?!? :undecided

Any help into this would be appreciated :)

I suspect that for immediate clearance it would have to have been pulled out manually for processing. If this wasn't done then it will go through the normal clearance system with all the other cheques

    Only a guess though.

Might just have to visit the branch tomorrow and ask if not see if they can do anything and worse comes to worse ask my nan to transfer the cash and when the cheques cleared give her the money back.

You'd think now a days with technology everything would be slightly quicker haha :(

Why not just do this anyway, dont think the process for cheques can be speeded up once its been paid in.

You seem to be doing a lot of hoping!

Why not visit the Barclays website, or see your account T&Cs, for the facts. Start here...

My point was that, rather than "hope" for a particular outcome, if you'd checked beforehand (the afore-mentioned FAQ on their website for example), you could have had your money 2 days sooner (at a cost of £20) or chosen another deposit method...and therefore been able to pay your bills and rent without the hassle you have now.

I realise that but being young and a student I'm not particularly clued up on cheques and banks etc yet and if i'd known sooner i would have asked my nan for the money option.

We all learn from our mistakes though :)
