Could wrong information re property age cause me a claim problem?

I may have stated the wrong age of the property i'm renting on my contents insurance form. Could it cause me a problem if I tried to later make a claim?

My landlord is now off on a 3 month trek overseas and can't confirm what age the property is. He just had to take a guess at what year it was built, but it's making me a bit nervous as someone told me that any wrong information and i'm screwed if I try to make a claim.

It could , though probably only if your insurer does not cover contents for properties built when yours actually was.

You could ring them if you are concerned and ask them to note the age as approximate.

He guessed 1983, but it was a rough guess as he couldn't remember. He can check his paperwork when he gets home in 3 months and I can update it with the insurance company but it's making me very nervous if it being probably wrong will mean they wouldn't pay out in the case of a claim.

Usually with contents cover the age of the property is not such a major factor in calculating the premuim.

However if it is a really old property it may affect the premuim.

If the property was built in the 1980s , give or take 10 years, I don't think this will impact your contents policy.
