health insurance in the US for university student?

Hi, I am currently doing a PhD in a UK University.
In October I am going to the US (Texas) for a visiting period in a US University and I must have health insurance with the following minimum requirements:
• medical benefits of at least $50,000 per accident or illness;
• repatriation of remains in the amount of $7,500;
• expenses associated with medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $10,000;
• Deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness
I had a look at some US providers yet I am not fully convinced and I am a bit worried that then I will have to deal with somebody based in the US.
Do you happen to have any suggestion about any US-approved UK provider which may offer covers for students going to the US, please?
For 'US-approved', I mean one among the following requirements:
• an A.M. rating of "A-" or above
• an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-i" or above
• a Standard & Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A-" or above
• a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of "B+" or above
Many thanks

Most travel insurance will meet your requirements by far0

I suspect that s/he would be classed as working and so ineligible for this kind of policy. In any case, getting travel insurance for a full year away could prove pricey.
Check with both universities: when I did my PhD I was insured for my year away by the policy that covered staff at my home university. And your university in the USA will undoubtedly be able to refer you to a US-based provider.0 -
Where does it say they are going for a year? It says "a period" from what I read.
Certainly some will cover travel for study in the same way that some cover travel for business.
Unsurprisingly Ensleigh do cover explicitly for study abroad but there are other providers who's cover would apply too. The OP does need to clarify the period they'll be away though0 -
Hi all, thanks for your reply.
Apologies for the confusion, I am going for 2 months (not 1 year though I would have loved it!) and I will have a J-1 Visa which is for student/scholars not for business.
Hope it clarifies my situation.
I'll double check Endsleigh in the meantime.
Thank you!0
