now after sausage advice

Options
Does anyone know if they're gluten free please? I've read the box but still not sure and have a relative with coeliac disease coming to stay. Thanks. x

P.S. Sorry for any confusion, this question was about kallo organic cubes but I changed the title after I asked about sausages a bit further down the thread.

Don't suppose you'd know a brand of sausage thats gluten free would you - my usual free range ones have wheat in?

    Hi kelink,

If you check out their website and click on the ones you have it will tell you whether or not they are gluten free.

    Hi kelink,

I know M&S definitely do gluten free sausages although I've never tried them. I thought that Asda did too but I can't find any mention of them on here

I hope you manage to find some.

Most aren't, especially the cheaper ones. Some of the gourmet range ones from Supermarkets are, but if so they usually mark this clearly on the packet. Ones from butchers rarely are. If it doesn't say gluten free, assume they're not unfortunately, as the discomfort you will cause your coeliac guest would not be worth it.

    It depends on the ingredients.

Many sausages are NOT gluten free as one of the ingredients is "rusk" or "breadcrumbs". Essentially, some kind of wheat-based filler which is added to the pork (or other meat) mixture.

Many people here add breadcrumbs to HM burgers - in which case they would not be gluten-free. The same is true of shop bought burgers & sausages.

You need to study the list of ingredients or find a trusty local butcher who makes their own and who can tell you what they've put into the mixture.

Yes I've just read through all the ingredients on just about every brand of sausage on line and they all contain rusk. When she was a younger her tolerance level was quite high and she could safely eat very small amounts but unfortunately she outgrew it so we all have to be much more careful now. Think we've have pork chops that day instead!

Asda, Tesco, Morrisions and Sainsbury's all produce a gluten free sausage - it will say on the pack that they are gluten free... BUT not all the stores stock them :( Might be a case of asking at your store if they stock them.

Tesco gluten free sausages are the nicest we've found - some of the others are 'very meaty' - ie very coarse. M&S also do gluten free sausages and some of the 'taste the difference' sausages from Sainsburys are g/f - they say on the lable...

My mum's a coeliac so I'm used to studying labels!!
