If my recently made homeless Son stays over for a few weeks, will it effect my JSA?

A Homeless housing officer who is trying to help my mentally impaired Son find a place said it wouldn't effect my Housing Benefit if he stayed for a few weeks whilst he searched for a place.

What about JSA though?

Would this be something considered as part of "Notified as change of circumstance?" I would guess no, but I need to be sure.

It would only affect your benefits if you son had 1) savings or property or 2) higher income than benefit levels.

Nope, just personal experience and knowledge. There will be links, but haven't the time to look.

If you're getting single person discount for council tax, then you would need to inform the local authority when he moved in and when he moved out again as you wouldn't be entitled to single person discount for that period. If you get full council tax benefit as a result of being on income related JSA it won't make any difference.

In your position I'd keep a record of exactly what the housing officer told you, their name, and the date. You could even write to the council to ask them to confirm what you were told, checking on the council tax position at the same time. This link is to the rules about non dependant deductions for people who normally live with you. It sounds like your son wouldn't normally live with you and I guess that is what the housing officer was thinking, but if that changes then the rules will apply.

It shouldn't make a difference to your JSA. If you're on contribution based JSA that is unaffected by anyone's income. If you're on income based JSA then it's only a partner's income that is taken into account. If you're worried about it, phone DWP, let them know what's happening and ask them what effect it will have, taking care to record all the details of the phone call.

ETA - if you feel you can't make the phone calls yourself, ask for help at your local CAB. Notifying everyone will put your mind at rest about it.

You still need to report it. There is a table that does evidence what I've said (that no deductions will be made) that BigAunty posted on the £50,000 thread. Have a look there. But you should always report any changes, who is living there etc however temporary but it won't affect your benefits. As I said, the evidence is in the other thread.
