Euro card

I am going to Germany soon and most of the shops there don't accept credit card. Only "Euro cards".

Does anybody know what these are and how to get them?

Eurocard was bought up by Mastercard in 2002 so I would have thought you should be able to use any Mastercard:

As #2 Eurocard in Germany is the equivalent to Access in the UK ie both are now Mastercard.

There are some other alternatives such as 'Geldkarte' which is effectively a debit card.

All in all Germany is one of the places that hasn't entirely accepted the Credit card, make sure you can access cash what ever payment you take!

Mastercard/Eurocard Credit Cards (which are now one and the same) and Maestro debit cards are probably the best payment methods when going to Germany.

Visa cards have slightly lower acceptance. If you don't have a Mastercard or Maestro, you can still get cash out of ATMs with a Visa debit card if you need to...

Unfortunately, mainland Europe seems to be behind everyone else when it comes to accepting card payments... France and Spain seem to be catching up fast, but Germany and Austria are quite a way behind everyone else as they rely on their domestic systems, like the "Geldkarte" as mentioned by Dazza.mk
