Are loss assessors any good? What do they cost?

I only have a small 2 bed terrace house that was devastated by the recent floods. My insurers are refusing to replaster my walls - despite them full of waist deep water. Their guys first said it would need doing, then changed their minds.... I do not trust them. Everyone else i know who was flooded even just a few inches is having their house replastered. Anyway i was thinking about a loss assessor. I am scared what they would cost though and seeing as it is just for buildings only, would it be worth even getting one? I just don't want to get shafted which i feel may happen. Any experience of using one?
