Complicated one! Transfering Windows 7

You shouldn't move an OEM licence between machines. In reality what happens is that automatic activation doesn't work so you phone up (a freephone number) and key in some details from your pc. If that doesn't work you speak to a person in an Indian call centre and tell them you are reinstalling windows that came with your pc and they ask you for the code and give you an activation sequence.
Done this several times with XP & Vista, but I bought the retail version of Win 7 when it came out (cheap) so I can move that without the OEM hassle.0 -

OK, so that's the way it works and you don't know whether the laptop will have a COA sticker on the case.
But many people will say that they can use keys on a different machine, so it does work. (Indeed this Lenovo laptop appears to have been supplied with a Dell COA.)
And I asked you how you know that the installed key on the (as yet not purchased) laptop will be a volume licence one.0 -

I have no idea what you are on about...really. I haven't written that I don't know whether there will be a COA sticker(as there most certainly will be).
I know exactly what key will be used on the machine referred to by the OP and it is certainly not the one on the COA.
Other than that, I have no idea what you want to know and why you are asking.0 -
OK - let me clarify...
1. How do you know that the key will be a volume licence key when you do not know the manufacturer or model of laptop they are proposing to buy?
2. How do you know that the licence (including case COA) will be a brand-specific one?
You are making statements based on the assumption that it will be, but you do not know that.
If the above are not the case, then the licence will not be locked to a specific machine in any way.0 -

asus k53u - sx297v They mentioned it twice in the first post.

Where did I write that?

These are all assumptions that you have made. I have written nothing of the sort.
Seems that you have jumped to a lot of conclusions. Read what I actually wrote.
A Product key is not a licence, it is a Product key.0 -
