Question re. work and carers

I'm not talking about payments.
My question is if I signed on, and I was receiving carers but was not eligible for payment for JSA or any other benefit beyond carers allowance, would I still be allowed to sign on?
In theory this is possible and carers can seek to restrict their JSA conditions by reducing the amount of hours in their job search. JSA normally requires that the job-seeker is available for a 40 hour per week job however carer's can seek to restrict/reduce this to 24 hours for example.0 -
As my advice is so incorrect then this post won't mean anything to you.
JC don't like carers signing on - The fact that they have to "work" 35 hours a week caring limits the capacity for job search. They do the same with those on courses (even 18 hours a week), even if evening etc.
However, your instance is slightly different as you are not being paid and is voluntary to they may not take the sam approach with you (they normally force a sign off to Income Support).
The reason I asked about the length of time left on your policy is because most policies are 12 months - and as you have an overpayment on carers, it may be have been easier to stick with the JSA voluntary until as the end of the Insurance term would be up (if you owed 3 mos CA), then reclaim it.
As this is 24 mos and not the usual 12 mos this isn't feasible.
Also most people who need care - need it reguarly not Friday - Sunday, hence why JC can be "awkard" as people have difficutly in job seeking.
But as you are not asking for payments - this shouldn't be an issue because you probably won't even need to mention it to them.
Also insurance Companies - rarely accept "I searched for a job" without a JSA agreeement - if your's does, then why bother signing on?0 -

Well, there's specific legislation regarding those on courses of education.
There's also specific rules on carers - I'm not sure if I would class offering a carer's premium and more flexibility to availability rules as 'awkward' thoughprincessdon wrote: »As my advice is so incorrect then this post won't mean anything to you.

so why do nearly all the clients I work with get pushed onto IS and JC staff support this as they say it's difficult to find work?
Now admitedly they don't actually want to sign on a lot of the time, their care is not as flexible as the OP (ie they need to work 5 mins away, need time off work when ill etc), so it's easy to "persuade them". but yes nearly all the clients I work with who are carers are very much pushed into the IS route by JC staff.
Is it just our local JC who do this?0 -

JCP staff suggest IS because it is less hassle for them and the carer, and for the reason you suggest (most carer's are busy caring)
