Vent RE: p&p

Sorry in advance if you think im being pedantic, but its not the amount, but the principle that bothers me!

Iv just purchased some personalised sashes for my mates birthday weekend, 9 of them, and put them all in my basket (well 8 as i only got confirmation of the 9th today) and purchased them, two different lots as i wanted 1 pink and 7 black, then i purchased the 9th (another black). All good except they show as 3 different items in my basket to pay for them and as the seller offers combined p&p (great) it does it automatically, but has only reduced the p&p for the 7 black ones i purchased as one item (not so great!).

Messaged the seller and asked for a combined invoice to reflect the discounts for the other two, but have just received it with exactly the same amount as on the ebay checkout page!! Grrrrr!

Trouble is with ebay, it doesn't recognise you buying x of several items. Just a of one, b of another and c of another. So the charge for the first item is taken (in my example) 3 times. If the seller is a volume seller they may not notice as it is supposed to work it out but doesn't do it as it should. A seller hits the combined button and may not even notice.

Perhaps a polite email explaining you can't get the figures to match x of one colour/sort and y of another?

Thanks chancesare, i did email them as i had to specify what i wanted printing and explained that i had asked for a combined invoice as the seperate items hadnt been included in the reduced p&p, the thing thats bugging me mainly is that if ebay automatically deduct postage, then surely someone asking for a combined invoice should make them think, why? But i suppose i will have to ask for another one and see if they read this one.

Trouble is, not all sellers realise it doesn't calculate correctly if you are buying the same item but not from a MVL.

They may be wondering what the issue is. Spell it out nicely :-)

Just had a similar postage problem myself. Bought 3 items from the same seller, Added them to my basket 1st and bought all 3 at the same time.

Listing stated £2.99 and £3.99 postage and each additional item was free.

Yet it charged me the full price. I did sent a comment, But so far have had no reply from them. Email update today saying they posted it.

But so far no reply or refund on the excess postage. But i didnt want to wait for them to revise the postage and delay posting by a day or 2, So thought it will be better to sort it later.

As a seller you need to have the postage settings for additional items and 'postage rules' set at the same and then it will automatically adjust for different colours, etc..

As a seller this took me ages to work out and I was forever manually adjusting. I'm not sure there would be a way around it for Ebay as some items on a multiple listing may be different weights or sizes. That said the post is always the same, so a bit confusing all round.

Could you expand on how to do this please? As I haven't quite got this one working yet!

I was hoping no one would ask;)

It may be clunking but I'll give it a go.

Let's say you're selling an item in black, white, yellow and red.

Your post is £1 plus 50p each additional items. If someone buys all 4 items the automatic postage charges £4, if they buy 4 black it would charge £2.50.

On the item listing page, under "P&P options" is "Edit rules", click this. You will then get a box which has "flat postage rules" listed. If you click "add profile" you can put 50p in the box and give it a 'profile name'. If you then tick the box for the listing it works within that listing as well as with other listings you can include on the same rule.

You can now add lots of post profiles (it used to be you could only have one). It's certainly saved me some time since I found it/worked it out.
