Slugs and damp! HELP!

For the walls youre parents are right, and you can get good emulsion from Wilkinsons especially for damp bathrooms.
I get the occasional slug in my sitting room when it rains heavy, they must be coming in through a hole in the wall and under the skurting board. I would look for holes and seal up.
I've lived in damp mouldy properties before and if I had the option I'd just move. How's your general health? I mean if you had asthma you could go downhill for instance.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

I had same problem re damp and found soo many conflicting answers and not easy to source the problem. Is it really condensation, when there is no mould in the bathroom but it is in the spare room. Both are heated continually and I would say no difference in room temp.
Is it really the answer to say ventilation when really there is no way to ventilate inside of drawers or under drawer units? Where the problem is.
I am in same situation clothes, handbags etc covered in mould. I was rushing out last week only to find as soon as I got on the train I saw my bag had mould spots on it!
If yours is a private rented house I would move. As mine is social rented it may be worth my while paying privately to get it investigated properly and hopefully come to some sense with landlord to get it fixed.
I put in a previous thread, and one came back with what looked like an indepth way to source problem. But am waiting for winter so it is at its worse before I spend money on survey.
I am not sure if I would go to that expense for private rent.0 -
Just to give you all an update:
The landlord came round the other day - He was a LEGEND about it and is sending someone round to sort it any day now!
He's even told me that he'll redecorate the bathroom and change it (and the kitchen) next summer! He's also said that he'll reimburse me the money for the boots and shoe's I've had to throw away!

Thats good of him
Btw I have seen my big black slugs crawling into holes in the walls so I think they might be starting to hybernate.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

Feel for you, I had this problem too. Turned put to be poor ventilation under the floorboards so it was very damp under there, ideal conditions for sluggies. Had the builders round, they cleared out old building materials and rubble left under the floor, repaired the dampproofing and put in some extra ventilation bricks and fingers crossed not seen any since. They were getting in thru the one ventilation brick that still had some air holes in it !0

I really feel for you. We had this problem in our last house (rented). The slugs did make it on to the worktops unfortunately as I could see the trails. We also had leather bags and food items in packaging go mouldy. It definitely wasn't a lifestyle thing as we haven't had this problem before or since (hate when landlords blame it on this)
Anyway, we just lived with it as we knew we wouldn't be there for long. Putting slug pellets down in between floor boards and under skirting etc helped.
I'm glad to hear your landlord is helping you out. Awful living in a damp house.0 -
May be worth getting a dehumidifier, that'll collect a fair amount of moisture in the air. If you don't have extractor fans in the bathroom and the kitchen this is what can happen. Poor ventilation and drying clothes indoors just adds more moisture inside.
