Wedding Photo Misery

Andy, the pre-wedding shoot didn't go ahead because the weather has been bad and we had problems getting to where he is located. So we had no reason to think he wasn't reliable. His website is very good and we went on that, previous weddings he had done and was pleasantly surprised that he was such a great guy too. The pre-wedding shoot hasn't been mentioned since.0

But again it does seem strange how guests have captured smiles and photographer doesn't.
Have to agree with this. Tbh it never ceases to amaze me how many random faces people can pull, especially if they see the camera :rotfl: and that can be one of the reasons why I might have 1000+ photos of the day and the couple may only get 500-600 - but that's precisely why I take the 1000+ in the first place to make sure I catch the 'natural' and the smiling ones!0 -
Hey Gadgeteer, I can't send another email now as I am a new user but will do. The photographer is editing them and making many of them black and white and few extra ones seemed to have appeared but still not very sure. They aren't all bad, some are lovely but too many are random, any day type of shots, not wedding like. I can only send a link to the ones of his official website, not the ones he is editing. He seems to be avoiding us which is odd. I don't know what he is doing. Shouldn't we have had a contract? Is it normal to have to buy the prints on top that go into the album?0

I've sent you a PM with my email address so you can send me his website link if you like. Are you sure he's finished? If he's using Dropbox he could be in the middle of editing the photos and that explains why more are appearing. Dropbox ensures his photos are backed up on the Internet but if it is then I'd have to say it's a very random workflow. Certainly strange to let customers see unfinished photos. That's a recipe for disaster.
Yes you should have a contract and I'm wondering what sort of professional would undertake a shoot without? I certainly wouldn't. For starters I doubt my insurance company would pay out without a signed contract. I'm doing a friend's wedding next year for free since he's a very good mate and as a wedding present to him but I'll still get him to sign a contract with a nominal £1 charge to ensure I'm covered.0 -
You should definately have a contract, yes. The prints depends on the package you agreed on - I do a lot of digital only packages where the images are just supplied on dvd, and if they want prints or albums later then would charge them extra for it. Should have been explained to you exactly what was included beforehand though, preferably in writing.
If extras are appearing then he might still be in the process of doing them - though I find it very strange that he would make a page/gallery public if it was still being worked on. Also if he's adding new photos now then he's obviously at a computer so should be able to reply to your emails!0
