"fixing" the cooker that i broke

hiya,
There will be an electrician coming to check a place over to ensure that it complies with the required standard for rental. My issue:
I have a perfectly good cooker that contains x4 knobs that correspond to x4 electric rings.
There is a single light that indicates whther any of the rings are on.
While cleaning under 1 of the knobs with (CIF), I now notice that the light no longer comes on when i switch 1 particular knob on..The electric ring comes on, but the light doesn't.I have swapped the knobs and I've established that the connection underneath the first knob is probably loose.I sprayed it with with a water repellant, but that made no difference..
My question:
Do I wait for the electrician to come out and hope he can fix it, or do I try myself..at the risk of further damage..Obviously I don't want to have to make 2 callouts.
Thanks,
yogi
