Most places, now, used computerised units that do this.

They enter the car model details into the input on the machine, hook it up, and away it goes.

So as well as time for the "technician" - which is truly minimal, any costs, are likely some towards the cost of the pricey kit, perhaps loss-leader if they can up-sell, and after that, pure profit.

A fair bit different, from how it used to be from an air-con technician, who actually knows what he's doing, can actually do repairs, if needs be, and does a lot of these things by knowledge, expertise and experience.
