European breakdown cover! Help urgently!

Hi there,
Before leaving for Spain, we took out European Breakdown cover with Quoteline direct. I believe that AXA insurance is the company offering roadside assistance with this cover.
We managed to get to Spain just fine and spent our holiday there. On our return, our car broke down on the motorway in Tarragona.
We called about the company and told them about our issues and within 2 hours they sent us a guy with a truck that towed us to the nearest Volkswagen garage. There we spent about 3 hours waiting for a diagnostic on the car, after which they said we need another water pump but they wouldn't be able to do on the day as it takes about 5 hours to change it and they needed a piece that wouldn't be in stock for another 3 days.
You can only imagine the stress we were going through as when I called quotelinedirect they were telling me they can't provide us with accommodation or anymore assistance. After hours of waiting and numerous phone calls to them, they sent us a taxi that took us to a hotel where we were accommodated for the night. The following evening we were on a plane back to London.
We got home safe but our car is still in Spain. The company is saying that to fix the car we need to pay 1500 euros but they wouldn't be able to repatriate the car. Now this is an issue because speaking to a garage here we've been told that it wouldn't cost us more than 300 pounds to fix it. Now, even when you convert currencies you know that there's a massive difference in prices. We asked them to send us the car back to the UK the way it is, unrepaired, but they are refusing to do so.
I don't know what to do anymore. Does anyone know anyone that could help? Or any advice that you could give? Been in a similar situation? Or know anyone that has?
