Dad can't drive anymore who will insure cheapest?

Hello,
Newbie here. I have tried to find a broker who will give me straight answer but no luck so far. My parents are reliant on their car for health reasons. Up until last month my father was still able to drive but due to eye problems is no longer fit to drive. My parents want to keep their car for us siblings to drive them about but can't afford huge premiums. The car will still be owned and garaged by them but I need to find a way to insure it in mine, or my sister/brother's name so that it is still affordable. I have no NCB as I have not owned a car for more than 5 years, Would it be better to add it to my brioher's/sisters insurance as a second car? Is that possible as it will still be registered to my father? We don't want to get into a situation where the insurance company consider we are using my father's ncb to get cheaper insurance. Help?

You wont be able to use your dads ncb, as the insurance will be void as he has been advised not to drive and would mean its been frontedDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Without any NCD to use its going to be costly.
Having it registered in your dads name may put some insurers off and rules out some of the comparison sites or online quotes. They assume you are the registered keeper and owner.
Find a local broker. Adding as a 2nd car in a multicar policy is not always the cheapest option.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
A non-driving car owner can still have insurance, for someone else to drive. My father never learned to drive, but he still owned a car and was the insurance proposer.
If the car is registered and kept at your parents' address, owned by your father, registered in his name, insured by him, used mainly by him (with you as chauffeur), and you have your own car kept at your home for your use, then I don't see how this could be called fronting. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Insured by your dad as a provisional licence holder? Or no licence held at all?
Never see a comparison site option for no licence held. Provisional, Full or non uk, but not no licence held.
Its only fronting if the main driver is not declared to be the main driver.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My husband had to stop driving a couple of years ago, he was the policy holder and I was the main driver. We spoke to our Insurance company CIS and explained about the eyesight problem and they said he could transfer his NCD to me. He had to sign a form to the effect that he would be no longer driving and every thing was sorted in minutes. Its worth a phone call.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thank you for all your help. My father has a full licence, as do I. I suppose that in future I will be the main driver. I have tried local brokers but they are reluctant to help unless there is a guaranteed purchase for the work they will do. I can't promise that as we will only buy a policy if the premiums are reasonable. If they are too high I will recommend that my parents sell their car and rely on local taxi firms instead. I am beginning to think that this is the best way forward.... hey ho0

I don't think this is normal behaviour.

Why don't you phone an insurance company that has an 0800 number?0
