Llyods bank error Left me Out of pocket for week

I drop a cheque on one of Llyods TSB branch on the Friday, 24th August 2012 at approx 13:30 . I was assured that the cheque will be deposited into my account same day. And, there is no difference between depositing the cheque via counter and quick deposit box.

I called numerous time on saturday,(sunday & Monday Holiday), Tuesday , Wednesday (about 10 times) there was no proper response except they say that they will look into it. Every time i made a call, i told them that i need the money by week ending 31 August 2012.

Nobody responded to me, but on wednesday later on they gave me branch number , after numerous calls they say that cheque was left in the envelope by mistake and will be banked on wednesday (29th August 2012) and will clear after 3rd Sept 2012.

I have many DD and commitment to pay by the end of August 2012. And they are not offering any help.

I have no money left on account, i am out of pocket for a week.
Arent they suppose to help for their mistake by allowing to withdraw the amount by this week??

What can i do now - Any Suggestions?? :(

Go in complain and ask for a free temp overdraft to cover the amount etc
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

They have caused a delay and seem to have admitted that so it would seem reasonable that they should try and assist you for that period of delay.

Clearly they dont know if the cheque will clear or not and so it would seem the most reasonable approach from them would be to give you a very short fee/ interest free overdraft to cover those extra couple of days it will take for it to clear.

The problem with banks and their complaints processes is that they tend to move at snails pace and so by the time the complaints team get to looking at the issue the problem is well past.

If the local branch admit the mistake try and get the local branch to come up with a solution or push through the possible overdraft solution.

    Keep taking the tablets!
  • Thank you for opinion.

They have apologised for the act and offered 50£ compensation and will refund any costs incurred.

but they wont let me temp overdraft of 500£, not very good.

And what happend to your cheque? You make it sound that the £50 compensation is a lot more important to you than getting the cheque credited.

Are you sure the cheque existed? Are you sure you got paid £50 for the cheque?

What happens to the late payment markers you acquired due to non-payment of your DDs?

    TBH, that isn't surprising.
