Car stereo for Escort
Best value, rather than absolute cheapest. Any thoughts? How soon is analogue radio going to be turned off?
An aux connection would be good, I don't want bells and whistles and digital flashing lights.
Ideas welcome, Halfords is looking about the £50, and then fitting! (I could probably fit myself if someone said "yes of course that one will fit")
Thank you
It's a 1999 escort van, if that helps.

Any stereo will fit so get whatever you are happy with, Halfords seem to have a few reasonable deals. You will need this kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-Fascia-Trim-Fitting-Facia-audio-Kit-Radio-/260906906071?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3cbf4371d7 but do not buy it from Halfords as it will cost you around £40 !! A blind one armed monkey could fit a new radio in an escort

Looking online Halfords have a Pioneer with aux-in for £50. Use the fitting kit as above (its £30 from Halfords).
Fit it yourself ... its easy. Just take your time.0 -
For an Escort pop in to your local scrappy or freegle, they are laughably easy to break into and an old Ford stereo will be easy to slot in.0

Thing is valve radios for escorts will be sought after these days so you might have to pay a premium price for one:D
I would go on the bay and look for a FORD 6000 radio if i was you OP:)
you can get the input code for free on this site if you ask in the correct section0 -
Just FYI the ford 6000 radio does not fit, or should I say it will fit if I rip out the other bits of plastic/storage caddies, and then wedge a brick underneath the radio to keep it in the correct "clicked in" position. And the fitting kit doesn't connect with anything at the back.
Hmm.
£40 down the pan there then.0 -
What size radio was in the car (it should have been the 1.8 DIN size), was it an original Ford unit ? The wiring in the fitting kit I linked to will fit that car unless of course someone has chopped the wiring previously and it was not a Ford radio fitted. Photos would help.0

Dont forget to inform the insurance you fitted a non original stereo
