Cheaper UK - SEPA EU zone transfers

(Sorry for the cross post. I noticed after posting in another forum that it's very very quiet and probably won't get an answer in a long time)
I've found plenty of companies offering cheaper ways to do SWIFT transfers but none for BACS/FPS-SEPA transfers.
This is probably because as part of the EU the UK is supposed (expected to but not entitled since it's a different currency) to offer cheap SEPA transfers anyway.
I believe you can get cheaper rates by getting a Euro account but I only need to make payments infrequently.
The best rate I have so far is £7 + a percentage which works out quite expensive for low amounts as it's designed to be an alternative to those expensive global SWIFT transfers.

Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

Don't know what your question is but if you are looking for a cheaper way of making infrequent GBP EURO payments then I suggest something like Transferwise
I used them recently to pay rent for a holiday villa.
The payment is via SEPA from their Euro account. You credit their GBP account via faster payments. Fee was 0.45% and exchange rate was mid market much better than you will get from your bank.0
