British Gas - The true cost of being moved from Essentials tariff to Warm Home Disc
Comments

Since Essentials ended on 28 September and while still waiting for the switch to Scottish Power, I have been reading my meter daily as usual. I have calculated the true cost of losing Essentials as follows;
28/9/12 - Essentials cost = 2.46 Standard Tariff cost = 2.96 Difference = +0.50
29/9/12 Essemtials = 2.44 Standard = 2.97 +0.53
30/9/12 Essentials = 2.80 Standard = 3.40 +0.60
1/10/12 Essentials = 2.56 Standard = 3.06 +0.50
2/10/12 Essentials = 1.87 Standard = 2.28 +0.41
So in 5 days the ending of the Essentials tariff has cost me £2.54 and that is before the storage heaters are factored in.
2.54/5 * 365 = 185.42 more per year and again before the heating goes on:(0 -
Following todays announcement by British Gas, I have to say I am so relieved I made the switch when I did. At the time I was I have to confess a little worried that while I was switching to a fixed tariff for the next 2 years, I was in the short term going to be paying more than the current rate.
Having just factored in this price hike and based on my annual usage.......
British Gas Standard Tariff would cost me £1431.20 or £119.27 a month.
Scotish Power Fixed Tariff will cost me £1182.77 or £98.56 a month.
So with my costs fixed for the next 2 years I am already making a substantial saving, with the WHD to factor in I am very very happy with the decision I made.
If you haven't already switched do it now, the rest will all follow suit over the next month or so and you will pay a lot more as a result.0 -
Did you do cashback Simon, at least £15 with Energyhelpline.0

Yes I did Ken, £21.20 through Topcashback which I use for most things.0

If anyone is on SSE fixed rate, do think about moving to Ebico.co.uk They charge no daily standing charge and moving from SSE to Ebico (not for profit energy company), SSE will waive the cancellation fee (£50) if you tell them after you signed up with Ebico. It only takes 7 days for change over.
What I'm planning to do is to wait for my first bill with SSE so that I will use up the £100 credit they've given me.
£130 Warm Home Discount will be transferred if you qualify.
Ebico will also give you a further 6% discount if you do direct debit, it doesn't have to be duel fuel.
I should have been on this tariff rather than on Essentials...I'll tell ya.Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.
Have you sold your soul to the devil?0
