PPI with Joint names!!!

Hi Guys could you please advise as to my options.

I took out a mortgage back in 2003 with NR. As I could only borrow so much, I had to also take out a separate loan with NR to be able to buy the house. I was the main person with my then girlfriend as a signature. All the payments since then till now have come from my bank account as I am the primary account holder for this loan. My problem is that in 2006, we split up and I bought her out of our home with a legal cash settlement. Shortly after I changed the mortgage to the Abbey, but continued to pay the NR loan as a separate item.
Anyway I enquired about PPI on the loan and NR said that I did have it from 2003 to 2012. They sent me the forms and I filled them in and raised a complaint "as you do". The form stated that I had to put the names of the borrowers and sign it. As I dont know the whereabouts of my ex-girlfriend I don’t know what to do.
In my eyes, I legally bought her out of the house in 2006, which I assume that means that she had given up all entitlements to the property the bills and the mortgage etc. When I spoke to a friend at a similar company, He told me that they would not deal with any complaints/settlements without both signatures present. That both parties have to decide how to spit the returned PPI. I haven’t a clue where this girl is , it’s been 6 years. As far as Iam aware, she has no entitlement to any of it as I gave her a huge cash settlement back in 06.

Can anyone please advise as to the correct legal procedure regarding the signatures and the claimants entitlement

Kind Regards
