Hi, I have been in to the job centre to sign on today to be told that I now have to attend to sign on every day instead of once a fortnight with no exception this is going to cost me £2.60 a day which i can't afford - is there anything I can do about this is this normal?

Did it occur to you to ask them?

I know that people who are homless have to sign daily.

Then that is how it is going to be. They obviously don't have a lot of claimants and plenty of time on their hands.

In this situation I'd be asking more questions about the reason for daily signing. Also depending on bus times, what allowance they can make if you get a job interview or doing jobhunting outside the jobcentre. Also ask about help with transport costs, show them a copy of your expenditure, possibly say that the extra £13 week means you won't have enough money for food, electric or gas. Also ask how long it's likely to last.

Currently this will cost you £13 a week out of approx £50 or £65 JSA, depending on your age?

Is it any cheaper to get a weekly pass? Is it walking distance?

give CAD a ring as this seems unreasonable, the cost is too much as well out of your benefits, sounds as the manager there is a sad power hungry creep.
  • Hi there,

My partner has just come home from the job centre, and he too has been told he has to go in everyday for 2 weeks.

They told him its a new thing they are doing but I know 2 other people that also claim JSA and they haven't heard of it so wondering if they are just picking out random people.

As long as they can actually help him find work (he has applied for so many jobs and has only heard back from a very small handful- in which he didnt get the job) which is very unlikely!

It does say on the form they gave him that he can claim back on any travel costs for the days he attends which are not his normal signing on day, so definately look into that.

That seems harsh what jobcentre and area is he based at? Also wondering where the original poster goes. Wondering if this is a trial in one area or a new thing this week.

If they get additional travel costs what is the problem with this?
