the usbs dont work

all usb ports on my pc have stopped working ive tried software updates and reinstalling drivers but to no avail

i have a scaleo p 2.8 ghz p4
everything else works fine just when i put a usb device in the computer doesnt find new hardware

    check the device manager first. Control panel, system, hardware.

    that will give you some idea if the pc thinks there is a fault

    Power down the system completely and remove amy power leads going into the base unit itself. Leave for about 15 mins and then repower up, usually does the trick in resetting the usb...something to do with power still in the system apparently...works for me and has worked for many other people

    Agree with Startrekker. Power off.

    If that doesn't sort them try Device Manager and DELETE them. When you reboot it will load clean drivers etc if it finds them. If not then it's hardware related I'm afraid.

    If they are all onboard then consider a USB card (about £5 on Ebay). If they are on a card then turn off, take it out and start the PC without it. Shutdown, put the card back and reboot.

    pci daugter boards for usb are quite cheap, even from pcworld.
