Hi
Is it best to get mortgage first or a solicitor
I want to use the solicitor through mortgage company as it is cheaper than any other quote i have ad but the Estate agent didn't seem very happy with this and said really we should have a solicitor first? No one has ever mentioned this to me!

Hi I am a FTB and have completed this week. How it was for me is that i got a agreement in principle from my bank first. Found the house I wanted then made the full mortgage application, waited for the decision then got a solicitor involved. I was told that it would be pointless appointing a solicitor if I did not get full approval of the mortgage on application. I was also told that it would be pointless starting to pay a solicitor before I needed to. Not sure how correct this is but hope this information helps.
The best of luck to you0 -
Have you made an offer yet? You should be using a whole of market mortgage broker to let you know exactly how much you can borrow and get you a acceptance in principle. If you are armed with this then buyers and EAs will take you seriously.
While you are looking for houses you can be getting quotes from solicitors. When you have an offer accepted, you should be ready to give details of both your solicitor for conveyancing, and your mortgage broker who can confirm your ability to buy the property.
So by the time you have an offer accepted you should be ready with both.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

we couldnt get out mortgage agreed without the name of a solicitor, nor would the estate agents put the sold sign up on the house we'd had the offer accepted on until we'd given them the solicitors details0

I spoke to Northern Rock who said that once our survey is done a solicitor will be in touch. So about 11 days from now! Does that sound right???0

Thank you very much for your offer, but we are happy with our chosen mortgage and it is only a two year fix rate. My only worry is the fact i dont have the solicitor address and the estate agent is asking for it, i wont have it for another 11 days. I dont want them to think i am not serious0

You shouldn't be touting for business here, or posting e-mail or web addresses, wardlaw
. Advice is welcome of course
